2024

😎 There are two things I want by the time summer is over:

    1. starshipchangeling.net is established as my place on the Internet.
    2. I want to be changeling. As someone British once said, “Don’t dream it; be it.”

Getting ready for a day at the beach tomorrow! My favorite thing about this chair, it rocks. I’m Changeling, the Rocking Chair Dude!🧜🧞

Whole>Sum: Impressions of Stephen king's You like It Darker

Finished reading: You Like It Darker by Stephen King 📚

If you like the classic short story as done by King, this book has a lot to offer. The Cujo sequel was actually my least favorite, but the story that gets used to sell a collection usually is the one I like the least. I think it’s because that story gets so much hype, then the actual thing ends up being a let down. I liked “Fin”, “The Fifth step” and “Daniel Coughlin’s Bad Dream” the best. Even so, this is a collection where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.👍🏼

With the exception of linkedIn, which I don’t consider to be social media, I’ve deactivated all of my social media. micro.blog has everything I could ever want.

The fact of the matter is, I learned to not have a name at an early age. I was always and still often am that 🧑‍🦯. It’s time to try something else. elsev

My latest entertainment is generating an Eleven Labs voice, then using that voice to create the following clip that plays whenever I push a wrong key.

    A changeling After All

😎🧚🏻🐲 Was watching an old sitcom the other day and heard one of the characters refer to athe #LGBTQIA2ss+ community as, “the fae crowd”. Not saying that a good name for the community as a whole–pretty sure it’s not, but if we take it as a possible name and at how i’ve lived my life and where I’ve ended up in relation to this specific community, the name Changeling seems more and more appropriate all the time.

Are we seriously not able to sync ringtones between our Mac and our iPhones in 2024 using voiceover? All the articles I can find on how to do it tell me to drag and drop, but I don’t know where to drop the file and all my attempts are failing. Does anyone know how to go about this?

I’ve been playing with typing different things into Eleven Labs and seeing what comes out. Here is my latest creation. Listen at your own risk.

Three Things I Thoroughly Enjoy as a Synesthete

Loading the Elevenlabs Text to Speech AudioNative Player...

I don’t think being a synesthete gets blogged about as often as it should. I personally find my multi sensory experiences actually give me a knack for looking at situations from different angles. It also carries a special relationship with, if not talent for words and music. I’ve three of my favorite experiences here to get the ball rolling, and this may be the first of a series of long and short-form posts that communicate my experiences with Synesthesia. With that, let’s get on to the big three, to coin a phrase.

1: Early Morning and Evening swims

Randy up to their shoulders in the swimming pool with the pool house behind them in the background after dark with night lighting on.
There’s a lot at work here. First, there’s the texture of the water. It feels like liquid circles when I touch it. It feels like the most flexible wrapping material when I’m in it.

There’s also the combination of aromas. There’s chlorine, used suntan lotion, meals being cooked in other apartments and laundry soap sometimes. These combine with the texture of the water to help create a relaxing experience.

Finally, there’s music if I’m playing it, the sounds of outside if I’m not. These sounds create their own textures which combine with everything else I’ve just described. I think I’ll save sounds to textures for another post.

2: Climbing into Freshly Laundered Bedsheets

These are already pretty soft. Combine that feel with some fabric softener with the right scent, and this is a quick and easy way for me to relax. It can be further enhanced for me by showering before bedtime. More on certain smells and the textures they cause in future posts.

3: 💓 Laying on Someone’s Chest and Listening to their Heartbeat

Here, the heartbeat creates a nice, warm soft and reliable texture. It makes the person seem substantial to me. It also provides a nice undertone while we watch a movie or something.

The texture of the person’s arm enhances this experience. It provides a tangible corollary to the intangible I’ve just described.

    Conclusion

I named three experiences I find extremely enjoyable as a person living with synesthesia. I feel there’s enough groundwork here for future posts on this topic and will probably strive to have at least one out per week. Do you also experience synesthesia? What are some of your favorite experiences? See how you can contribute to the conversation below.

#A11y issue with #UberEats app and proposed solution

    Accessibility Issue with UberEats App

The main point I’m making is that there appears to be an accessibility issue with the UberEats app when using VoiceOver on iOS devices. Specifically, the issue arises when trying to report a problem with an order. Here’s a clearer explanation: When attempting to report an issue with an order on the UberEats app while using VoiceOver (the screen reader for iOS), there are two main problems:

    • Inaccessible Dropdown Menu: The dropdown menu that allows you to select the specific item with issues is inaccessible, even with Screen Recognition enabled. This feature is crucial for reporting the problem accurately.
    • Photo Requirement: After managing to get past the inaccessible dropdown menu once, the app now requires you to upload a photo of the item with issues. This step presents another accessibility barrier for visually impaired users.

    Suggested Solution

I propose that Uber should allow users to mark themselves as needing a stable experience for accessibility reasons. This would prevent beta features or experimental updates from being rolled out to those users, ensuring a consistent and accessible experience. Additionally, I suggest that other technology companies could benefit from adopting a similar approach, where users with accessibility needs can opt-out of receiving beta or experimental features that may introduce accessibility issues.

[@Mtt]9micro.blog/Mtt) Hello, I’ve just installed the Tiny theme plugin for my website. When I go into the design page of micro.blog, I see a bunch of error messages that thing aren’t processing properly. I can provide a full list if you like, but it seems to be looking for microhooks I haven’t yet installed.

On the site where I publish, if I click on any of the posts and open the link to that post, i get a message that says, “The page you requested is still being published. It should be available soon.”

What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? Also, why does your theme have no uninstall button? Holy lockins, Batman!

    Thank you.

😎 The fact of the matter is I’ve pretty much quit social media. even my beloved mastodon feels overwhelming these days. I do think I’ve truly found my home at micro.blog. I don’t scroll through FB, Instagram or Threads timelines. I just follow the users that interest me from those platforms.

I’m a synesthete and my given name, Randy, feels like a slap between the shoulder blades, sometimes even when people aren’t yelling, but only conveying acceptance, resignation or general readiness. Changeling, however, has a nice feel no matter what. I think it’s got something to do with all those hard consonants tongue tie people and make any truly strong voice truly achievable.

One Thing I’ve gotten from Eleven Labs: If you’re not a singer, it won’t make you one. Lol

I made this using Eleven Labs. In my defense, I was left completely unsupervised.
