Been rereading ready Player One and Two, and I was reminded that I’d promised myself the first time I’d read those books that if I ever was to be able to create a digital representation of myself, I would design my contact card to look similar to Art3mis’s because I found the concept fascinating. Here it is! A detailed image description follows below.

I realized the other day that the password for Chime I have in 1Password is not correct. When I was unable to reset my password through their standard password reset, I wasn’t getting the final email I needed. Calling them got me someone who advised me to log out of the mobile app and try resetting my password that way. I let them know I wouldn’t be doing that as that was the only access I had to the account at this point. I still have no password reset email.

To did a really good job at answering the 5 W’s and the H%2C then I went on to read the article and found it to be a more fulfilling read about a topic that interested me%2C but I had everything I needed from the summarization. If Apple could make their tech summarize social media feeds%2C that shit would be amazing.

Of all my medical experiences, this was certainly one of them.

I went to get my COVID booster in preparation for my trip to Minnesota in September. I scheduled a 9:00 AM appointment at the CVS Pharmacy right next to my office, thinking it would be quick and convenient. However, when I arrived, I was informed that they no longer accepted Blue Cross Blue Shield. When I asked about the cost of the shot without insurance, they said they didn’t know how to bill for it without insurance. They then suggested I go to a Walgreens down the road, seemingly oblivious to my sarcasm when I replied, “I’ll just hop in my car and drive over there. Thank you so much for your help.”

I then headed to Walgreens, which accepts my insurance, only to discover that they wouldn’t have the booster until September. The problem is that the vaccine needs time to be fully effective. Additionally, the Walgreens “just down the road” is actually across US41 at an intersection that even I—someone who used to film myself crossing major highways regularly—find unsafe. This issue is further complicated by the fact that Uber won’t do a 0.3-mile trip, so I ended up spending an extra $20 on Uber rides to find this out.

There were plenty of other CVS locations I could have chosen. In fact, this was the second time in two years that I attempted to get a COVID booster at this specific location and was turned away, even though I qualified for the vaccine both times with the same pharmacist. I decided that since they had inconvenienced me significantly, I wasn’t leaving without my booster. I walked back in and, after explaining that the shot I needed wasn’t available at the location they suggested, I insisted on getting the shot there. I succeeded, but the staff at that CVS charged me $202 for it.

It’s been an expensive morning.

I completely agree with this. lots of sites are “accessible”, but confusing as hell.

When we are talking to technology companies like Microsoft, Google, Apple, Amazon and others we need to move their focus away from "compliance" and talk about "usability". It isn't enough to be "compliant". Often this doesn't mean anything in the scheme of things. The true test is how usable is the technology we are buying and using in the market. Let's turn up the heat and hold these companies to account to ensure that not only are things accessible but they are truly usable.

Received Be My Eyes’ Inclusive Language Guide. I am surprised by some of the results, particularly the ease with which person-first language (a lot of work for no pay-off in my experienced opinion as a receiver of this language) is being ushered out the door. I acknolwledge I have some unlearning to do in this area, mostly pushing back on the administrations’ idea that person-first language is still correct. FTR, I still taking each person’s lead on which language you use is still the most fullproof way to go.

I mentioned a couple of days ago that I was gearing up for a day at the beach. Someone expressed interest in my experiences as a synesthete and a 🧑🏼‍🦯. All I can say about the motion of the ocean and my own movement to stay up are probably the closest I’ll ever come to knowing how a 🐉 feels when it flies. Trying to go beyond that would just involve a lot of descriptions people wouldn’t be able to process. All I have beyond that are a couple pictures and a playlist of songs that enhance the sounds, texture, color and overall experience of the beach.

When I go into the design page of micro.blog, I see a bunch of error messages that thing aren’t processing properly. I can provide a full list if you like, but it seems to be looking for microhooks I haven’t yet installed.

On the site where I publish, if I click on any of the posts and open the link to that post, i get a message that says, “The page you requested is still being published. It should be available soon.”

What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? Also, why does your theme have no uninstall button? Holy lockins, Batman!

I’m a synesthete and my given name, Randy, feels like a slap between the shoulder blades, sometimes even when people aren’t yelling, but only conveying acceptance, resignation or general readiness. Changeling, however, has a nice feel no matter what. I think it’s got something to do with all those hard consonants tongue tie people and make any truly strong voice truly achievable.

I just through out a bathing suit that was falling apart that I bought back in 2009 when I was attending Florida Gulf coast University because it was too big.
I had to change my weight on my medical ID, medical marijuana ID renewal application and health charts from 215lbs to 171lbs.
I’ve never been in shape quite like this.

Last night, someone asked me about my CMS and some markdown in general. I then gave a 10-minute speech on Markdown, micro.blog, The IndieWeb and the pros and cons of all three. I managed clear, without realizing it, an entire Clubhouse room but the few of us that were engaged. It was totally unexpected and I loved every minute of x.

Usage Examples

Will you be my panda?
I’m going out for some pizza with my panda later tonight.
My panda and I are renting an apartment in downtown Kalamazoo together.
I’d like you to meet Taylor. We’re pandas.

P.S.

The feeling needn’t be mutual for me to classify someone as my panda. Bringing the social aspect depicted in the above examples does require mutual consent.

Finished reading: Bad Moon Rising by Jonathan Maberry 📚 3/5 stars. Would have liked it better if the National library Service had had this trilogy properly chronicled so I would have realized this was not the first but third in the series. Also would have helped if the author had put book numbers in the titles.

My experience says that micro.blog is where my forever posts go, and mastodon is where I put the things I want out there but go away after awhile. I set up Mastodon to automatically delete posts after a certain length of time. Not only does it make me more comfortable posting, it makes people more comfortable interacting with me.

I agree with this post. There’s nothing that bothers me more than hearing, “Picture of the event flyer.” or something like that.

just fyi summarising text in an image instead of pasting it into the alt text field is ableist too

the point is to know what the image says and make your own judgements about it rather than just read a summary from someone else

for some cases, summarising is unavoidable (“graph trending downwards”) but specifically for text, just use the exact text please. and if you use OCR, double-check the output and fix any obvious mistakes instead of just assuming it’s flawless

obvious exceptions apply for text that cannot simply be copy-pasted, where OCR is unavailable, or the author is low-energy, etc., but most of the time it’s just someone taking a screenshot and not directly copying the text into the alt when they have it
